A Young Airman

Michael Seery is the middle son of Robin and Rod Seery of Charleroi. Mike is also the youngest member of the Alice Van Buren family tree and Alice’s great-great grandson. Mike graduated from his school in Charleroi last past June. He went off to seek his fortune in the Air Force in August, 2003 in the Air Force.

Mike is a sweet good natured young man.. He had a part time job, a girl friend and a desire to be in law enforcement. The Air Force offered him a career path to achieve his goal. 

After his initial training in Texas he was assigned to a post in Utah. He really took to it and was very pleased with his job and his training. Mom and Dad were so relieved. Mike was recently assigned to a base in Saudi Arabia. Reports are that he is doing fine. Mike is the youngest in a long line of Van Buren service men.

Two of Alice’s brothers, Martin and Lawrence Van Buren, served in the U.S. Army the First World War. Martin served overseas in the Infantry but Lawrence served in the States. Martin was 30 and Lawrence was 28 at the time of their service. Both were single. Martin and Lawrence were the first members of the Van Buren family to enter the service. They were the first sons of Peter Van Buren born in America.

Alice’s son James McDonald was the next man to enter the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater during W.W.II. He was part of the troops that marched into Paris at the end of the war.

Several of Alice’s grandsons served in that next generation: Don Hadley(Air Force), James Schloer (Air Force), and Robert Schloer (Army).

Great-grandsons also served: Joey Carmarda (Army) is the director of the Army Jazz Band today. Joey graduated with a Masters in Music from Duquesne. He served in Belgium as the Director of the Army Band for many years playing for the heads -of -state in Europe; and Scott Lintelman (Air Force), Randy Aul (Navy) submarine service; Robert Aul (Navy) served on USS Ninitz; and John F, Dilliott (Merchant Marines) retired and now a civil engineer at San. Diego University.
